03 – Fargo 2

… or is it “II”? The Coens seem more like Roman Numerals people, right?

Anyway, let’s get started on this week’s links:

  • In 2001, the body of Japanese office worker Takako Konishi was found in a field in the Detroit Lakes area after a trip to the city of Fargo. Rumours began to spread that she had travelled to America to look for the $1 million buried on the M25 by Steve Buscemi’s character Carl Showalter. Director Paul Berczeller investigated the story behind the rumour in his documentary This Is a True Story, which you can watch above.
  • There is another film more inspired by the urban legend; Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter, which stars Pacific Rim‘s Rinko Kikuchi in the lead role.
  • What’s the greatest Coen Brothers film? Criticwire took rankings of all of their films from seven different sites and averaged them to get the definitive ranking. Fargo tops the list, with newcomer Hail, Caesar! coming in at number 7.

That’s it for this week. Catch us next week, where I’ll be pitching, um… just watch this and see us on the other side.
