Welcome to Games Month! Every week this August, we’ll be pitching a film adaptation of a game, or a game itself. Should be fun.
I started off with an adaptation of Nintendo’s 1080° Snowboarding games. Even if you haven’t heard of the games (and according to Wumi, most people haven’t), it’s worth a listen.
Here’s what I’ve got for you this week:
- Looks like Wumi and Deeby liked the latest theme. If you want to hear the theme in full yourself, I’ve uploaded it to Bandcamp, where you can listen and download for free – you also have the option to pay any amount you like, which would be really, really sweet.
- 1080° Snowboarding is one of 1001 Video Games you must play before you die, according to Tony Mott, Editor of the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die. Other games – released between 1970 and 2010 – on the list include The Oregon Trail, Joust and The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
- A 1080 spin (that’s three rotations) sounds like a pretty impressive achievement. But there’s plenty of athletes who have gone beyond that. Professional boarders often hit 1260, 1440 and 1620° spins.
- Billy Morgan is a British snowboarder who competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He is also the first person to complete a 1800 (five rotations) quadruple cork spin. You can watch him achieve the trick here.
