39 – Interstella 5555. Two.

We’re up all night for a BRAND NEW EPISODE!

Here’s what I’ve got for you this week:

Here’s a ranking of “every” Daft Punk song.

Interstella 5555 and Tron: Legacy aren’t the only movies with a Daft Punk soundtrack: D.A.F.T.: A Story About Dogs, Androids, Firemen and Tomatoes featured music videos from their 1997 album Homework.

The film included commentaries from the directors of the different videos – Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, Roman Coppola and Seb Janiak – as well as behind-the-scenes footage during the making of each video.

The Daft Punk duo themselves have directed a few of their own music videos – as well as a feature film. Electroma started as a project connected to their 2005 album Human After All before expanding into a full-length film. The film tells the story of two robots who wish to be human. The soundtrack includes no Daft Punk songs, instead using music from Sébasiten Tellier, Brian Eno, Todd Rundgren and more.

There is a 2014 French film called Eden about two aspiring French DJs as they experience the culture created by House and Electronica. Sound familiar? While the film doesn’t focus on them, two characters called Guy-Man and Thomas do appear in the film who eventually grow up to become…

Several Daft Punk songs appear throughout the film, with the duo agreeing to license their tracks for the lowest possible fee.

Here’s one more story to make you smile: You know that will.i.am song “Got It From My Mama”? will.i.am remixed the track using “Around The World” as the backing track – without their permission – even creating a brand new music video for it. Daft Punk were… less than impressed with this. And all of will.i.am’s previous work. Especially “My Humps”. After hearing the remix, Daft Punk politely asked will.i.am to never listen to their music again.

.

.

Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration, but they don’t want him to remix their music again, which is still pretty harsh.

Those are my facts for this week – I’ll be back next week with some more interesting stuff for you all.
